Home or hospital?

There are two schools of thought. Stay in hospital as long as possible
to bond with baby with no other duties. Or, go home to get out of
uncaring hospital with weird rules, middle of night vitals checks,
bitchy nurses who refuse to give you percoset, and go home to recover
in familar surroundings.

After last night's bitchy night nurse, I am ready to go home tomorrow
- a day early. Everything looks good, recovery is going quickly, and
I've never spent 4 nights away from my daughter. So even though it
will be a bit more hectic, I'm looking forward to home.

And wireless access!

It's a tough call. I was always chomping at the bit to get the hell out of dodge. It's one thing if a baby wakes you up to feed at 4:30 a.m., it's another if 30 minutes after falling asleep from that feed a nurse barges in singing "SHIFT'S OVUH! WHO DO WE HAVE HERE?!"

And the food. Ugh.

I personally stayed in the hospital the full four days, and was really glad I did. But that was because Big A had (facial tick flaring up at the memory) adjustment issues with the new baby. So no matter what the nurses or doctors did, it seemed kind of calm and restful compared to the six-month-long tantrum my firstborn threw when I came home with Little A ...

Of course, *your* daughter is not my daughter, so perhaps it really is the best thing to get of dodge as quickly as possible!

Happy Thanksgiving.

I have a feeling I'll be maxing out my hospital stay. In your situation I'd probably feel quite differently.

Glad to hear the recovery is going well. And how can they not give you the P? I meant to ask you before, but what do you do for breast feeding when you are recovering from a c? Do they allow you to take pain meds at all?

It always makes me sad to hear of people who don't have a positive experience with the hospital stay. CLC, I was told that you can take pain meds while nursing, a very little bit gets into the milk and pain can hamper milk production.

My husband and I refer to our hospital stay as our vacation at Baby Med. They wanted me to go home on Day 3 and I said, no thanks, I paid for four days and I'm sticking around. They couldn't have been nicer and less obstrusive. They came when we needed them (even just to swaddle at 3 a.m. when we were too spastic to do it) and let me and baby sleep if we were sleeping. I want to go back :)

I went home when Patrick was a day and a half old. I had been there two days, and that was long enough. I couldn't sleep, the food was bad, and there were constant interruptions. Plus, the hospital had run out of neosporen, and had informed us that we needed to bring in our own to smear on his circumcision! Um, no. AND, my in-laws would only keep Josie for one night, so it was hard for DH to visit us there with her.
